Thinking
K... If a vampire is sooooo angsty and self-loathing about how HE (it's almost never a she...) was turned against his will and how much he hates what he has become... why doesn't he just go get a tan?

I'm not really believing that angst is real... now the broody dark stranger shtick may get him tail... but not so many points in the ole honesty department...

(And yes, I know this is supposed to be all romantic and all, but come on... I mean really the only way any mortal can help is being a nice light snack while he cries on the shoulder he's chomping...)

I used to ask myself the same thing about Louis the entire time I spent reading all those Anne Rice novels when I was younger. I mean, I guess he could have an aversion to suicide, but really. If you're already dead then it doesn't matter.

Aversion to suicide is one thing, and I will accept that... but come on after 200 or 300 hundred years you'd think the whole 'woo is me' is starting to get a little old :D

For crying out loud read a selfhelp book already!!

....abject cowardice?

Srsly. I've always figured that being emotastic!flampire goes hand-in-hand with being lily-livered.

Agreed!! Still, you'd think after 200/300 years they would at least come up with some new lines...

Um, I think cowardice is the greatest reason. Also, some people (human or otherwise) enjoy whining.

And then there's the whole "if I'm dead already" thing. Let's face it. For us, when we die, either there's nothing or there's an afterlife depending on what you believe. But if vampires are already experiencing their afterlife, then what? What if you spend eternity a conscious pile of ashes? I'd rather be a vampire with agency if that's the case.

Interesting. I hadn't thought that they are living out their after life... though to me vampires are like the guys that thought maybe going into the light might not but such a good idea. So, the idea is intriguing but I think that vampires have simple not caught the bus to the otherside.

I don't know if you've ever seen this Canadian TV series called Forever Knight... now the lead was the typical 'oh boohoo I haven't seen a sunset in 800 years and it hurts my artist soul' lame-o vampire but two of his good vampire buddies really enjoyed being vampires and one of them thought the lead was a complete idiot and even offered on a couple of occasion to do him in.

I think I'm going to have to write a story about a happy vampire, who really likes being a vampire, always hated sunsets and thinks that humans are pretty lame LOLOLOL

Yes, you totally should write a happy vampire story who always hated sunsets; a kind of "My wildest gothic dreams come true" celebration.

That would be awesome.

Vampires are fictional creatures and their personalty and angsting is due to author preferences. I think that most likely someone started writing an angsting vampire people thought it is romantic and liked it so they kept on writing them that way. It's really not the vampire's fault or choice (not like they exist).

If they did exist they probably wouldn't be angsting for centuries (I'm sure it gets a little boring after a while). ^_^

My question I guess really is... why do girls like whiny vampires? I realise there is no answer for that... it just sometimes makes me shake my head at my gender...
